Flounder, Sea Bass, Mahi and Marlin

We had some more wicked thunderstorms roll through the area this afternoon with lightning, thunder and heavy, heavy rain. There wasn’t much wind to the storms that I drove through so thankfully there wasn’t much damage to report. The skies cleared nicely this evening allowing some folks to get back on the water and they took advantage of some good fishing.

Captain Tony Battista of Saltwater Adventures had a couple of trips today and he saw some good flounder fishing and some nice keepers. The largest of the day was 23.5″ and over 5 pounds. Captain Tony also reported that lots of boats that fished offshore had “laundry flying” with several releases. The private boat Maverick fishing out of Harbor Island had a fantastic day with a blue marlin and 20 white marlin.

Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run Charters had a nice day in the ocean this morning with several keeper flounder and some triggerfish for his crew.

Daylen Linton and Cameron Smith fished the Assateague surf recently and found some very nice red drum catch and release fishing with bulls up to 46″.

Anglers fishing on board the Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak found good fishing on today’s trip with sea bass up to 4 pounds and some very nice flounder around the rail.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a fun day with some family and friend yesterday and put some mahi on ice

Underway with Shelly and grandsons plus a few friends this day. Paddled on off to drop blocks at Capt Bobby’s Reef first. Soon 6,000 there I think. Well, and a lot of big stuff too.

Weatherman played his funny games. NE at less than ten is such a nice day. New England air temps, the least bit of chop on a calm sea – gorgeous. Was the day’s promise..

Fingers crossed?

At 10 I even had streaks on the water. Not whole hearted streaks – likely 18 knots – was getting plenty saucy.

Boys, eight & eleven, were all about it though.

Was Pat McManus who wrote “There’s a fine line between perseverance and stupidity.”

I kept fishing.

Why in blazes the bite went as it did is beyond me. We nicked a few most everywhere until 10:30 or so – then?

Ugh..

Was it perseverance or.. Anyway, I stuck with mahi fishing. Could have switched up for cbass/fluke in a heartbeat. Have seen big schools when the chips were down before though.

Not this day. Never had another mahi bite.

At least the forecast came round. Wind fell out about 12:30. Time I headed in it was getting nice – real nice.

Had a friendly pool which David unashamedly put to bed – no contest.

All in all – mission accomplished. Enjoying themselves today made the grands qualified for any trip I offer. Owen’s gal Maggie, and Tina too were troopers.

Have a few spots for mahi T/W/T – very few. Forecast (FWIW!!) says Go.
